In every hour Monkey is climbing up 3 ft and slips back 2 ft.

So, we can say that in one hour monkey is climbing only 1 ft.

We are asked to find the time that monkey will take to reach the top.

In 17 hours monkey will have climbed 17 ft.

In next hour as he will climb 3 ft he will be on the top.

So, we can say that monkey will take 18 hours to reach the top of the tree.
