What is the difference between ARP and RARP?

Difference between ARP and RARP
Address resolution protocol.Reverse Address Resolution Protocol.
Retrieves the physical address of the receiver.Retrieves the logical address for a computer from the server.
ARP maps 32-bit logical (IP) address to 48-bit physical address.RARP maps 48-bit physical address to 32-bit logical (IP) address.
The sender sends the ARP query packet on the network which is broadcasted to all the other host or the router presents in to the network. The sender broadcast the RARP request to the all the other hosts present in the network.

What is IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol) ?

Understanding of IGP
  • IGP is a protocol for exchanging routing information between gateways within an autonomous network.
  • This information is then used by the internet protocol or other network protocols to route transmissions.

Two commonly used IGP:

  • Routing Information protocol
  • Open shortest path first protocol

Types of IGP:

  • Distance-Vector Routing Protocol
    • Uses the Bellman -Ford algorithm.
    • Example RIP, INTERIOR Gateway Routing Protocol and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol.
  • Link-State Routing Protocol:
    • Used to construct connectivity maps.
    • Access all network topology data via the routing table.
