Question 1

Write in Short Short Answer▾

Find out the Q factor of the circuit which has inductance 100 µH and resistor 5 ohms with frequency 100 Hz.

Edit

Explanation

Q factor of a resonant circuit can defined in terms of its reactance and resistance.

In terms of inductance it can be given as,

Substituting the values of frequency, inductance and resistance from given information in equation (i) ,

Q = 0.01257

Hence Q factor for the given question will be 0.01257.

Question 2

Write in Short Short Answer▾

What is Quality factor?

Edit

Explanation

  • The quality factor (Q) of resonant circuit is a measure of the “goodness” or quality of a resonant circuit. Quality factor is the ratio of power stored to power dissipated in the circuit reactance and resistance, respectively.

Q =

Q = 2π/R and Q = 1/2π R

  • In a series resonant circuit voltage across L or C is Q time՚s total applied voltage and in parallel resonant circuit current across L or C is Q times the total applied current.

= QV in series resonant circuit

= QI in parallel resonant circuit
