## Question number: 4

### Write in Short

What is flow control and where it is done?

### Explanation

Flow control is the management of data flow between computers or devices or between nodes in a network so that the data can be handled at an efficient pace. Too much data arriving before a device can handle it causes data overflow, meaning the data is either lost or must be retransmitted. For serial data transmission locally or in a network, Xon / Xprotocol can be used. For modem connections, either CTS/RTS (Clear to Send/Ready to Send) commands can be used to control data flow.

## Question number: 5

### Write in Short

In a pet shop there are 120 eyes and 172 legs. How many birds and puppies are included in these?

### Explanation

In a pet shop there are 120 eyes and 172 legs.

Let there be x number of birds and y number of puppies.

Birds and Puppies both have 2 eyes. So,

2x + 2y = 120………. (i)

Birds have 2 legs while puppies have 4 legs. So,

2y + 4y = 172………. (ii)

Equating both the equations,

2y = 52

y = 26

Substituting the value of y in equation (i),

2x + 52 = 120

2x = 120 – 52

2x = 68

x = 68/2

x = 34

There are 34 birds and 26 puppies in the pet shop.

What is a connection oriented/connection less transmission?

### Explanation

Connection Oriented transmission:

There is a sequence of operation to be followed by the users of connection oriented service. These are:

1. Connection is established

2. Information is sent

3. Connection is released

Connectionless transmission:

It is similar to the postal services. In connectionless the data is transferred in one direction from source to destination without checking that destination is still there or not or if it prepared to accept the message. Authentication is not needed in this. Example of Connectionless service is UDP (User Datagram Protocol) protocol.
