What is passive topology?

Explanation

  • When the computers on the network simply listen and receive signal without changing it (amplifying) , they are referred to as passive.

  • Some topologies include two nodes in a hardware cluster. One of these nodes is active, and the other is passive. Active node runs the Oracle Application Server components and handles all the requests. If active node goes down passive node takes over and runs the components.

  • Set of rules defining a very simple virtual terminal interaction used at the start of a Telnet session.
  • The Network Virtual Terminal (NVT) represents basic terminal and provides standard that for connecting computers:
    • Defines how data and commands are sent across the network.
    • Allows interoperability of Telnet with heterogeneous computers.
    • Protocol has virtual keyboard and printer that displays specific characters.
      • Printer responds to incoming data
      • Keyboard produces outgoing data sent over the TELNET connection.
    • Provides bi-directional character device.
  • Based on seven-bit USASCII in an eight-bit field.
